TestDisk โ€“ free and open source data recovery software

TestDisk is a multiplatform free and open source data recovery software. It works under DOS, FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD, Windows, GNU/Linux, SunOS, MacOS.

TestDisk is a multiplatform free and open source data recovery utility. It was primarily designed to help recover lost partitions and/or make non-booting disks bootable again when these symptoms are caused by certain types of viruses, broken software or human errors (such as accidentally deleting a partition table). Partition table recovery using TestDisk is very easy. TestDisk has features for both experts and novices - for those who know little or nothing about data recovery techniques, TestDisk can be used to collect detailed information about a problematic hard disk which can then be sent to a expert for further analysis.

TestDisk can
  • Locate ext3/ext2 Backup SuperBlock
  • Fix partition table, recover deleted partition
  • Rebuild NTFS boot sector
  • Recover NTFS boot sector from its backup
